Hearing Noises In The Attic? How To Get Rid Of The Possums This Summer

Blog

If you've heard noises in the attic, chances are good that you've got a possum problem. Possums hide in your attic during the day. At night, they come out to do their hunting in the dark. It's when they come back to nest in the morning that you'll hear the most noise coming from the attic. That's when you know you need to take action. But, you do need to be careful. Here are some tips to help you get rid of the possums.

Hire a Pest Removal Service

If you've got possums in the attic, now's the time to hire a pest removal service. There are rules you need to follow to get rid of the possums. First, you need to use capture cages that won't harm the possum.  And, you need to release the possum at night. But, you can't release them too far from where they're captured. That's where a pest removal service come into the picture. Pest control services know how to remove the possums once and for all.

Install Motion-Sensor Lights

Once you get rid of the possums, you need to make sure they don't come back. Possums like to return to their favourite nesting spots. Unfortunately, that means they could target your attic again. That's where motion-sensor lights come in handy. Possums like to stay to themselves.

Motion-sensor lights come on as soon as the possums are detected. The lights help keep the possums off your property. It's a good idea to install the lights around the perimeter of your home. It's also a good idea to install several motion-sensor lights in the attic as well. That way, possums won't build their nests.

Block All the Entry Points

If you're tired of dealing with possums in the attic, you need to block their access points. This can include cracks in the walls, and gaps in the attic doors. Be sure to use heavy objects to block the access points. Possum's have sharp claws that can rip through cardboard and light wood.

Use Scent Deterrents

When it comes to getting rid of possums, you can use scent deterrents. Possums are sensitive to some scents. This includes garlic, mothballs, and pet hair. To keep possums away from your attic, use those scents to your advantage. Sprinkle garlic, pet hair, and mothballs around the perimeter of your house. You can also sprinkle these substances in your gardens. That way, you keep possums away from your home, and from easy-access food.

Deterring Pests while Protecting Pets

Hello, my name is Mandi, and although I own a number of pets including my dog, two ferrets and a guinea pig, I am utterly afraid of all non-pet creatures in my house. I hold the guinea pigs as I watch TV, and I sleep with my dog, but the idea of a mouse running through the walls makes me incredibly uncomfortable and tense. Since pests are such a trigger issue for me, I have spent a lot of time researching them. I have learned how to get rid of them, but more importantly, how to get rid of them without bothering or putting my pets in danger. If you are trying to balance the wanted and the unwanted creatures in your home, I hope these posts help!
